Tivo Upgrading The Hard Disk Drive
I already unplugged my mom’s TIVO and now I find out from the instructions that I need to know.
Is your TiVo OS earlier than 2.5?
Not sure about this but I guess I need to check it since I already tried it once and it doesn’t work, who knows this could be the problem.
Hooked the Tivo back up and it is version 3.0-01-1-010
So that should be more than 2.5.
Right now the tivo is showing about 49 hours at the high resolution, but it is only recording about 15, so the system knows that the 2nd drive is there, but it is just not using it.
I am trying to check the disk drive settings, it is a Seagate disk drive. Barracuda 7200.7 120 gig hard drive.
As always, I go to Seagate’s site and the 7200.7 they have listed as a 40 or 80 gig, and of course I have a 120 gig. The 120 gigs on the Seagate site are 7200.9 and they seem to have different settings.
But I run across a chart on the drive itself and it looks like it is set up as a slave drive.
I was reading about some issue where if the drive is set for cable select then it may not work right.
Then I look at the 30 gig at fireball drive and it looks like it might be cable select.
It’s very hard to tell, and I can’t find any thing on the internet that looks like it would be helpful at all for setting the jumpers on a quantum disk drive.
The side of the disk drive had a sticker and it looks like it might be set for cable select, so I changed it to the one that looks like it might be the master setting. Who knows if that will make a difference, now I have to plug it in and wait to see if it will record anything with out erasing the old programs or not. GOOGLE ADSENSE
