Radio Controlled Helicopter
I got a micro mosquito radio controlled helicopter for my birthday,
After reading on the internet about how easy they are to fly I was very excited to try it out.
The first obstacle is to get it out of the package without destroying it, you need a knife or some other type of tool to accomplish this.
There were a couple of other problems…
the biggest one is that it does not come with batteries, you need a 9 volt and 6 “C” batteries to make it work. Without these it’s not much fun.
I don’t have 6 “C” batteries, but I have a lot of “AA” rechargeable batteries, because I have a digital camera that uses them.
If you work at it a little the “AA” batteries will fit because they are the same length as “C” batteries.
I figured out while trying to get the batteries in that it has a charge plug, so the better option would be to get a 7.5 volt charger and use that.
Anyway, the once I got the batteries installed, I figured out is that it is not that easy to fly. The videos on the internet show the flying around the room and hovering in one spot and it all looks so easy. Well it’s not quite that simple, after a dozen major crashes I am surprised that it still works. I have crash landed it from about 3 feet several times.
Also flown it into the wall at about 4 feet several times.
I realized that this radio controlled stuff is not that easy, and it takes some practice to make it work. One problem is that you need a space that is at least 6 feet by 6 feet, and my house really doesn’t have anything like that without a chair or table or something in the way.
I started using my bed, which has worked ok to learn how to fly from.
And I have to say for something that looks extremely fragile, it has taken some pretty good crashes and it still runs like it did when I got it.
One flight I got to close to the edge of the bed and it fell to the floor and knocked the tail rotor off, but it slips back on pretty easy, and other than that it has stayed together pretty good.
